Advanced diagnosis for vertigo.

Patients who suffer from balance disorders, dizziness and vertigo typically don’t know what’s causing their condition. They are often frightened and afraid of falling. Diagnosis is often difficult without the right technology. Yet it is accurate diagnosis that leads to the most effective treatment.

Videonystagmography (VNG) pinpoints vestibular problems.

VNG is a diagnostic test used to determine whether or not dizziness may be due to inner ear disease. VNG’s diagnostic system records, analyzes and reports involuntary eye movements (nystagmus) using video imaging technology. VNG is the new standard for testing inner ear function. It addresses the functionality of each ear and whether a vestibular deficit may be the cause of the patient’s dizziness or balance problem.

Unlike electronystagmography (ENG), VNG measures the movements of the eyes directly through infrared cameras. VNG testing is more accurate, more consistent and more comfortable for the patient. Dizziness or balance problems might also be caused by:

  • Brain disorders
  • Medical disorders such as low blood pressure
  • Psychological disorders such as anxiety

But in many cases, a vestibular problem is found at the root of the dizziness or vertigo.

Epley and Semont Maneuvers: The Semont and Epley maneuvers are special exercises our physical therapists use to treat benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Just one 10- to 15-minute session is all that is typically needed. As the patient’s head is firmly moved into different positions, the calcium crystal (canalith) debris causing vertigo will slip out of the semicircular canal into the inner ear and symptoms will cease.

Comprehensive care and treatment.

We can treat all kinds of balance disorders, dizziness and vertigo. In some cases, our comprehensive care eliminates the need for your patients to see multiple specialists. We also offer in-house physical therapy and rehabilitation services, among others (balance training, fall prevention, etc.). By offering these services under one roof, we can make the whole patient and referrer experience more efficient.
